NDE Boosts Employment: 130,000 Nigerians Benefit from Nationwide Training Initiative
The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has empowered over 130,000 Nigerians through its nationwide skills acquisition and employment programmes aimed at reducing unemployment and boosting economic growth.
The initiative, which spans across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, is part of the agency’s ongoing commitment to equip citizens with practical skills for self-reliance and entrepreneurship.
According to officials of the NDE, the beneficiaries were trained in various vocational and technical fields, including agriculture, tailoring, carpentry, information technology, and small-scale business management. The programmes are designed to provide participants with hands-on experience and startup support to enable them to establish sustainable livelihoods.
The Director-General of the agency stated that the programme aligns with the Federal Government’s broader strategy to tackle youth unemployment and promote inclusive economic development. He added that special attention was given to women and young people, who make up a significant portion of the beneficiaries.
Participants who completed the training expressed appreciation for the opportunity, noting that the skills acquired would help them generate income and improve their living standards.
The NDE has continued to play a key role in job creation initiatives in Nigeria by implementing programmes that focus on vocational training, entrepreneurship development, and public works schemes.
Experts believe that sustained investment in skills development and job creation programmes will be critical in addressing Nigeria’s unemployment challenges and fostering long-term economic stability.
