Education Program Assistant

Location: Gusau LGA, Zamfara State

Duty Description

The Program Assistant will play a central role in coordinating, supervising, and supporting LPF humanitarian field activities in Gusau LGA. Under the guidance of the Project Officer or Head of Programs, the Program Assistant will supervise field volunteers, support the implementation of WASH, nutrition, health, and learning support activities in IDP camps and host communities, ensure accurate and timely field reporting, and coordinate with relevant stakeholders to ensure effective service delivery. The role also contributes to promoting behaviour change in hygiene, sanitation, safe water use, and nutrition practices.

Roles and Responsibilities

 

Supervision and Coordination

The Program Assistant will supervise and provide daily guidance to field volunteers. The role includes planning and allocating weekly tasks to volunteers in line with project objectives, tracking volunteer attendance and performance, and ensuring consistency in reporting. The Program Assistant will also conduct routine field visits to monitor activity quality and ensure adherence to LPF operational standards.

 

Activity Implementation Support

The Program Assistant will support the monitoring of WASH, nutrition, health, and education interventions. The role will coordinate hygiene promotion activities and ensure they respond to community needs. The position also supports monitoring of learning activities within camps and host communities.

Educational Resources Reporting and Documentation

The Program Assistant will compile daily, weekly, and monthly activity reports from field volunteers and prepare consolidated reports for the Project Officer. The role will also support volunteers in collecting data for donor reporting and proposal development and maintain updated documentation of meetings, trainings, and field activities.

 

Community Engagement and Stakeholder Coordination

The Program Assistant will liaise with camp officials, community leaders, and local actors to support smooth project implementation. The role includes representing LPF in field-level coordination meetings across sectors such as WASH, Nutrition, and Education. The Program Assistant will also support community mobilization efforts and promote gender equality, disability inclusion, protection mainstreaming, and accountability to affected populations.

 

Education Compliance and Safeguarding

The Program Assistant will ensure that field volunteers comply with LPF policies including Child Safeguarding, Protection from Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment (PSEAH), and the organization’s Code of Conduct. The role requires immediate reporting of safeguarding or protection concerns in accordance with LPF procedures.

 

Additional Responsibilities

The Program Assistant will support procurement and logistics arrangements for field activities when required and perform other duties assigned by the Project Officer that are relevant to the role.

 

Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess SSCE, Post-SSCE Certificate, NCE, National Diploma, or a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, Community Development, Education, Nutrition, or a related field. Applicants should have at least two years of experience in humanitarian field operations such as WASH, nutrition, health, education, or protection. Experience supervising community volunteers is required.

Education Candidates should demonstrate strong coordination, communication, and interpersonal skills and have the ability to work effectively with women, children, and vulnerable groups. A sound understanding of gender equality, disability inclusion, accountability to affected populations, and protection mainstreaming is expected. The role requires the ability to work under pressure and adapt to challenging field conditions. Proficiency in Hausa or other local languages spoken in Zamfara State is an advantage.

CATI Team Members

Location: Gusau LGA, Zamfara State

Duty Description

Under the supervision of the Hygiene Promotion Assistant or WASH Supervisor, CATI Team Members will conduct hygiene promotion sessions focusing on proper hand washing, safe excreta disposal, safe household water management, latrine use, and other essential hygiene practices. Activities will be carried out through house-to-house visits, focus group discussions, and community meetings with local leaders, women leaders, religious leaders, elders, and other community representatives to promote positive hygiene practices and support risk communication and community engagement.Remote work options

The role also involves supporting WASH committees in disinfection campaigns and collecting demographic data under the guidance of the WASH team.

 

Key Responsibilities

CATI Team Members will support beneficiary targeting, promote effective use of latrines and safe water, and assist the WASH team during distribution of hygiene and sanitation kits. The role includes delivering hygiene promotion messages through house-to-house visits, group sessions, community meetings, and mass mobilization events.

The team members will conduct child-to-child hygiene promotion activities using dramas, songs, and other interactive methods supported by information, education, and communication materials. They will ensure that IEC materials are properly distributed and utilized.

 

Educational Resources

The role includes conducting follow-up visits to ensure participation of all groups within the community, including vulnerable and disabled individuals, and maintaining records of hygiene sessions and beneficiary information using LPF templates.

CATI Team Members will conduct focus group discussions and regularly report findings, challenges, and lessons learned to the WASH or Health Promotion Assistant and Officer. The position also involves working closely with community committees such as water management groups, latrine cleaning committees, women’s associations, and child groups to support public health promotion objectives.

Additional tasks include participation in mass public health campaigns such as environmental sanitation, jerrycan cleaning, vector control, and non-food item demonstrations. Team members are expected to comply with LPF standards, respect property at the workplace, and maintain professional conduct with beneficiaries and colleagues.

All team members must adhere to LPF’s Code of Conduct, including a commitment to zero tolerance for sexual exploitation and abuse and the obligation to report such cases.

Experience, Skills, and Qualifications

Candidates with SSCE and Post-SSCE certificates must have a minimum of two years of relevant experience. Candidates with National Diploma or NCE require at least one year of experience. Applicants should demonstrate strong communication and interpersonal skills. Knowledge of local languages and proficiency in English will be considered an advantage.
