FG Opens Application for 2026 National MSME Awards, N1 Billion Grants Available to Nigerian Businesses
The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially opened applications for the 2026 National MSME Awards, a flagship initiative aimed at empowering small businesses and boosting economic development across the country. The programme, which will distribute more than N1 billion in grants, is designed to recognize and support high-performing Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with strong potential for growth, job creation, and innovation.
The announcement was made by Temitola Adekunle-Johnson, Senior Special Adviser to the President on Job Creation and MSMEs, during a media briefing held in Abuja. He explained that the initiative is part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen entrepreneurship and stimulate inclusive economic growth.
According to him, the application portal will be open from April 7 to May 7, 2026, giving entrepreneurs nationwide a one-month window to submit their entries. He encouraged eligible business owners to take advantage of the opportunity, assuring that the selection process will be transparent and merit-driven. The grand finale of the awards is scheduled for June 27, aligning with World MSME Day, a global event that highlights the importance of small businesses in sustainable development.
Further details were provided by Sarah Ajayi of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), who revealed that the 2026 edition will feature around 12 award categories. These categories will cover key sectors including manufacturing, agriculture, fashion and textiles, creative industries, innovation, and beauty and wellness.
She emphasized that compliance with regulatory standards will play a crucial role in the selection process, urging applicants to ensure all required documentation is complete and valid before submission.
As part of the screening process, shortlisted applicants will be required to submit a two-minute video presentation detailing their business operations, production processes, and overall impact.
Applicants must also provide essential personal and business information such as their full name, business name, location, and date of birth. Only individuals aged 18 and above are eligible.
To qualify, businesses must be properly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and possess a valid Tax Identification Number (TIN). Additional certifications—such as tax clearance, SON product certification, NAFDAC registration, SMEDAN registration, NEPC export documentation, or ITF certification—may improve an applicant’s chances of selection.
The National MSME Awards continue to serve as a major platform for showcasing Nigeria’s most innovative and impactful small businesses, while providing them with the financial support needed to scale operations and compete globally.
