FG launches Youth Green Jobs Fellowship
Nigeria has launched the Youth Green Jobs Fellowship to equip young people with skills in renewable energy, sustainability, and digital media. The initiative is led by Advocacy for Policy and Innovation in partnership with the House Committee on Renewable Energy. In addition, the INCLUDE Knowledge Platform is involved under the Africa Policy Dialogues Renewable Energy Digital Media Fellowship.
The programme is a 12 week fellowship designed to bridge the skills gap in Nigeria’s growing green economy and create employment opportunities for young people. It begins with an intensive two week training phase. During this time, selected participants are trained in digital communication within the renewable energy sector.
Participants receive practical training in areas such as digital media fundamentals for energy, curriculum vitae development, the use of artificial intelligence in content creation, visual design, and blogging.
Moreover, the fellowship adopts a technical and vocational approach by combining classroom learning with hands on experience. This prepares participants for real world roles.
Upon completion of the training phase, participants are placed in organisations within the green economy. There, they gain practical experience through internships and apprenticeships. They also receive mentorship to support their professional development.
The initiative aims to address the shortage of skilled talent in Nigeria’s green economy, particularly in both technical and communication related roles. Moreover, it seeks to increase awareness of green career pathways and strengthen the capacity of young professionals. This enables them to contribute to sustainability focused industries.
The programme targets at least 100 young Nigerians and is expected to build a pipeline of skilled professionals. These professionals will be capable of supporting the country’s transition to a low carbon economy. It also aligns with broader policy efforts such as the proposed National Inclusive Green Jobs Act. This policy focuses on expanding job creation within the green sector.
Application details will be made available once officially released.
