Humanitarian Access Safety and Security Officer Job in Katsina at IRC (International Rescue Committee)
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is currently recruiting for the position of Humanitarian Access Safety and Security Officer (HASSO) in Katsina, Nigeria. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, IRC is a globally recognized humanitarian organization providing life-saving assistance and long-term support to people affected by conflict, disasters, and displacement.
Job Overview
The Humanitarian Access Safety and Security Officer (HASSO) will support safe and effective program delivery in conflict-affected areas. The role reports to the Senior Humanitarian Access Safety and Security Manager and focuses on improving humanitarian access while ensuring staff safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Support implementation of security management plans
- Develop and apply humanitarian access strategies
- Conduct risk assessments and safety audits
- Maintain security databases and incident reports
- Organize regular security meetings and trainings
- Strengthen relationships with local stakeholders and authorities
- Monitor the operating environment and provide analysis reports
- Ensure availability of safety tools (first aid kits, emergency equipment)
Access & Liaison Duties
- Build trust within communities to improve acceptance
- Identify and address access constraints in high-risk areas
- Support expansion into new operational locations
- Enhance IRC’s visibility and reputation in host communities
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Security Management or related field
- 1–3 years of relevant experience (humanitarian/security context preferred)
- Strong analytical and reporting skills
- Experience in risk assessment and incident management
- Fluency in English and at least one local language
- Knowledge of Northwest Nigeria security context is an advantage
- Familiarity with communication systems (HF Codan, Motorola VHF, satellite)
