FG Launches OHOPRS to Lift 50 Million Nigerians Out of Poverty with Unified Data System
The Federal Government of Nigeria has officially launched the One Humanitarian – One Poverty Response System (OHOPRS), a major national initiative designed to reduce poverty and improve the livelihoods of millions across the country.
The OHOPRS program is aligned with the administration’s target of lifting 50 million Nigerians out of poverty through a coordinated and data-driven strategy. It integrates humanitarian assistance, social protection, and long-term development into a single, streamlined framework.
Speaking at the launch event in Abuja, the Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Dr. Bernard M. Doro, highlighted that the initiative is built on the principle of “One System, One Register, One Pathway.” He noted that this approach will enhance transparency, accountability, and efficiency in delivering support to vulnerable populations.
Key Components of OHOPRS
- Unified National Register: A centralized database designed to track beneficiaries from initial vulnerability to economic self-reliance.
- Structured Poverty Exit Pathway: A targeted support system that ensures beneficiaries move toward sustainable income and independence.
- Poverty Intelligence Lab: A real-time analytics hub that enables data-backed decision-making for effective policy implementation.
- Whole-of-Government Approach: Collaboration between federal agencies, UN organizations, development partners, and civil society groups to maximize impact.
The new system also aims to consolidate existing social protection and humanitarian programs into a single platform. This is expected to improve coordination, reduce duplication of efforts, and ensure that resources are efficiently utilized.
With its integrated framework, OHOPRS represents a significant step toward building a transparent and results-oriented poverty reduction system in Nigeria. The initiative is expected to drive measurable progress in improving living conditions and promoting long-term economic stability for millions of citizens.
