FirstBank Confirms Olayinka Ijabiyi as Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications
FirstBank of Nigeria Limited has officially confirmed the appointment of Olayinka Ijabiyi as its substantive Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, with immediate effect. The announcement marks a significant step in the bank’s ongoing transformation strategy, reinforcing its commitment to strong corporate governance and brand leadership across its markets in West Africa and beyond.
Ijabiyi, a highly experienced marketing and communications professional, brings over 25 years of cross-industry expertise spanning financial services, telecommunications, media, and international development. Since joining FirstBank in 2011, he has played a key role in shaping the bank’s brand identity and communication strategy.
Before his confirmation, he served in an acting capacity as Group Head from December 2024, where he led integrated marketing campaigns and corporate communication initiatives aligned with the bank’s growth objectives. His responsibilities include overseeing brand management, corporate reputation, executive positioning, and sustainability-focused communications.
Throughout his career at FirstBank, Ijabiyi has held several strategic leadership roles, including Head of Brand Strategy and Special Projects, Head of Digital Marketing, and Head of Brand and Stakeholder Management. His contributions have been instrumental in driving brand visibility and strengthening stakeholder engagement.
Prior to joining the bank, he worked with global and regional organizations such as British Council, MultiChoice Group, MTN Nigeria, and Etisalat Nigeria, where he gained extensive experience in brand development, digital transformation, and corporate communications.
Ijabiyi is widely respected for his strategic leadership and ability to translate business goals into impactful marketing campaigns. He has successfully delivered major brand initiatives, including milestone anniversary campaigns and brand refresh programmes that enhanced brand equity and operational efficiency.
He holds a Master’s degree in Public and International Affairs from University of Lagos and a Bachelor’s degree in English Language from Ondo State University Ado Ekiti. He is also a Fellow of the National Institute of Marketing of Nigeria and a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations.
The confirmation of Ijabiyi is expected to further strengthen FirstBank’s brand positioning and communication strategy as it continues to expand its footprint and deliver innovative financial solutions.
