Capacity Building Training on Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation Opens for PWDs in Kano (Apply Now)

A new opportunity has been announced for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Kano State as the Disability Projects Initiative (DPI) launches a specialized training program focused on climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Supported by the Disability Rights Fund (DRF), the initiative aims to empower PWDs with the knowledge and practical skills needed to respond to the growing effects of climate change across Northern Nigeria.

Addressing Climate Challenges in Northern Nigeria

Climate change continues to impact communities in Kano and beyond, with rising temperatures, irregular rainfall, and increased flooding becoming more common. These environmental challenges often affect vulnerable populations the most, particularly Persons with Disabilities who may face limited access to timely information and resources.

This training program seeks to bridge that gap by ensuring PWDs are not left behind in climate action efforts.

Key Objectives of the Training

Participants will benefit from a comprehensive curriculum designed to build both knowledge and practical capacity, including:

  • Understanding the science and local impact of climate change
  • Learning practical adaptation strategies for everyday life
  • Gaining skills to reduce environmental impact and carbon footprint
  • Developing advocacy skills to engage in community and policy discussions

Who Can Apply?

The program is open exclusively to:

  • Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)
    Residents of Kano State, Nigeria
  • Individuals motivated to contribute to climate action and community development
  • Applicants from all disability groups are encouraged to apply to ensure inclusivity and diverse representation.

Why This Training Matters

Beyond learning, this initiative is designed to build a network of climate advocates among PWDs. Participants will gain tools to influence change in their communities and actively participate in building a more sustainable future.
